Biography
Michaela Coel is a British actress, writer and director. Born Michaela Ewuraba Boakye-Collinson on 1 October 1987 in London, she trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She created and starred in the E4 sitcom Chewing Gum (2015–2017) and the BBC One/HBO series I May Destroy You (2020). For the latter she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress and became the first Black woman to win a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series. Her film credits include Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and The Christophers (2025), in which she plays Lori Butler.
