Biography

Mike Post (born Leland Michael Postil, 29 September 1944) is an American composer of television and film music. Born in Berkeley, California, he began as a session musician and arranger, winning a Grammy Award at age 23 for his work on Mason Williams' "Classical Gas". At 24 he became musical director of The Andy Williams Show.

His long partnership with arranger Pete Carpenter produced the theme for The Rockford Files (1974). Post has composed music or themes for many series, including Columbo (1971), Hill Street Blues (1981), Quantum Leap (1989), Law & Order (1990) and its spin-offs, Magnum, P.I., The A-Team and NYPD Blue. He has received five Grammy Awards and one Primetime Emmy Award for his television work.
