Biography

Mikhail Krichman (Михаил Владимирович Кричман) is a Russian cinematographer born on 17 June 1967 in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts in 1995 with a degree in engineering and technology.

He is best known for his long collaboration with director Andrey Zvyagintsev, serving as director of photography on all of the director’s feature films from The Return (2003) onwards, including The Banishment (2007), Elena (2011), Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017). Krichman has also worked with other directors on films such as Silent Souls (2010), Miss Julie (2014), The Secret Scripture (2017) and Vermiglio (2024).

His awards include the Golden Osella for best cinematography at the 2010 Venice Film Festival for Silent Souls and the Golden Frog at Camerimage for Leviathan (2014).
