Biography
Molly Maginnis is an American costume designer. Born on 24 December 1951 in Washington, D.C., she studied painting at Washington University in St. Louis before earning an MFA in costume design from Carnegie Mellon University.
She began designing for theatre and opera, with Broadway credits including the 1983 revival of Show Boat. From the mid-1980s she worked extensively in film and television, with credits including Broadcast News (1987), Sister Act (1992), As Good as It Gets (1997), The Bucket List (2007), Smash (2011–2012) and Patriot (2015–2018). She received a Costume Designers Guild Award for Smash.
Maginnis designed costumes for the 2026 limited series DTF St. Louis, for which she received a Primetime Emmy nomination. She has also designed for opera, dance and commercials, and has taught at institutions including Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, San Diego.
