Biography

Murray Smith (14 June 1940 – 28 December 2003) was a British film and television writer and producer. He wrote the screenplay for the 1975 episode 'Faces' of the ITV series The Sweeney.

Smith created and wrote the interconnected ITV crime series The XYY Man (1976–1977), Strangers (1978–1982) and Bulman (1985–1987). He contributed scripts to other series including Minder (1979), Hammer House of Horror (1980), Dempsey and Makepeace (1985–1986) and Lovejoy (1986). He also wrote five screenplays for director Pete Walker and two novels.
