Biography
Nathan Johnson (also credited as Nathan Tyler Johnson) is an American film composer. Born on 4 August 1976 in Washington, D.C., he grew up in Colorado and lived in England in the mid-2000s before returning to the United States.
He is best known for his long-standing collaboration with his cousin, director Rian Johnson, for whom he has composed scores including Brick (2005), The Brothers Bloom (2008), Looper (2012), Knives Out (2019), Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025). Johnson also composed the music for the series Poker Face (2023). His other film scores include Don Jon (2013) and Nightmare Alley (2021).
Johnson began his career with the band The Cinematic Underground; his work in that project led to opportunities in film scoring. He has received recognition from the International Film Music Critics Association, including Breakthrough Film Composer of the Year for Looper.
