Biography
Peter E. Berger was an American film editor. Born in Los Angeles in 1944, he was the son of film editor Fred W. Berger. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles film school, served in the United States Army and worked for the Armed Forces Korean Network in Seoul before beginning his career in 1968 on the television series The Doris Day Show. His first feature credit came in 1973.
Berger edited approximately fifty feature and television films. His credits include Dead Again (1991), four Star Trek films between 1986 and 1998, Hocus Pocus (1993), Coach Carter (2005) and Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007). With Michael Kahn he won the BAFTA Award for Best Editing for Fatal Attraction (1987) and received an Academy Award nomination for the same film. His final credit was the 2009 television film Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, his sixth collaboration with director Thomas Carter. He died in Calabasas, California, in 2011.
