Biography
Renié (born Irene Brouillet, 31 July 1901 – 12 June 1992) was an American costume designer. She studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and the University of California, Los Angeles. After designing theatre sets she worked as a sketch artist for Paramount Pictures before becoming a costume designer at RKO Pictures in 1937.
She remained at RKO until the 1950s, then freelanced. Her film credits include Cat People (1942), The Three Faces of Eve (1957), The Sand Pebbles (1966) and Body Heat (1981). She shared the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Cleopatra (1963) and received four further Oscar nominations. She also designed costumes for Disneyland and the television series Haywire.
Renié was a founder and past president of the Costume Designers Guild and later taught in Los Angeles.
