Biography
Renzo Rossellini (1908–1982) was an Italian composer, music critic and educator. He studied composition at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome and began composing for film in the 1930s. He wrote more than 100 film scores, including many for his brother, director Roberto Rossellini.
His work on the neorealist classics Rome, Open City (1945), Paisan (1946) and Germany Year Zero (1948) is among his best known. He also scored films by Vittorio De Sica, Dino Risi and others, and received two Nastro d'Argento awards for best score. Rossellini composed operas, ballets, symphonies and chamber music, and served as artistic director of the Monte Carlo Opera from 1972 to 1976.
