Biography

Robert Clohessy is an American actor. He trained at the State University of New York at Purchase and began his career in the mid-1980s.

He is known for recurring and regular roles as law-enforcement or authority figures, including Correctional Officer Sean Murphy in the HBO series Oz (1999–2003), Officer Patrick Flaherty in the final season of Hill Street Blues (1986–1987), Warden Boss James Neary in Boardwalk Empire (2010–2011) and Lieutenant Sid Gormley in Blue Bloods (2010–2024). Film appearances include Chief Weirzbowski in The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) and the Sheriff in It Ends with Us (2024). He has also appeared in The Avengers (2012) and 27 Dresses (2008).

Clohessy has worked in daytime drama and on Broadway, including a role in the 2008–2009 Roundabout Theatre revival of Pal Joey.
