Biography

Timothy Sydney Robert Hardy (1925–2017) was an English actor with a career spanning theatre, film and television from 1949 until his death. He trained at Magdalen College, Oxford, and joined the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre company at Stratford-upon-Avon in 1949 after service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

Hardy was widely recognised for his portrayal of Siegfried Farnon in the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small (1978–1990) and as Winston Churchill in Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years (1981) and subsequent productions. He played Professor Krempe in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), Sir John Middleton in Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Cornelius Fudge in four Harry Potter films (2002–2007). He received a CBE in 1981 and was nominated for BAFTA awards for his performances in All Creatures Great and Small and Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years.
