Biography

Robert Mark Kamen is an American screenwriter. He received a BA from New York University and a PhD in American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. His first produced screenplay credit was on Taps (1981).

Kamen wrote the screenplay for The Karate Kid (1984), which drew on his own experiences studying Gojū-ryū karate. He also wrote the sequels The Karate Kid Part II (1986) and The Karate Kid Part III (1989). He has collaborated extensively with Luc Besson on films including The Fifth Element (1997), the Transporter series and the Taken series.
