Biography
Robert Riskin (30 March 1897 – 20 September 1955) was an American screenwriter and playwright. Born in New York City, he began his career writing plays for Broadway before moving to Hollywood in 1931 after Columbia Pictures acquired rights to several of his works. His first collaboration with director Frank Capra was on The Miracle Woman (1931).
Riskin wrote the screenplays for several Capra films, including Lady for a Day (1933), It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), You Can't Take It with You (1938) and Meet John Doe (1941). He won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for It Happened One Night. He later worked as a producer on films such as Magic Town (1947) and married actress Fay Wray in 1942.
