Biography
Samuel West is an English actor, theatre director and narrator. He was born Samuel Alexander Joseph West on 19 June 1966 in Hammersmith, London, the son of actors Timothy West and Prunella Scales and grandson of actor Lockwood West.
West studied English literature at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. He played Leonard Bast in the 1992 Merchant Ivory film Howards End, for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. His other film roles include appearances in Notting Hill (1999), Van Helsing (2004) and Darkest Hour (2017).
He has worked extensively in theatre and as a narrator for BBC documentary series. West stars as Siegfried Farnon in the television series All Creatures Great and Small.
