Biography
Sidney Bracey (born Sidney Bracy) was an Australian-born American actor. He was born on 18 December 1877 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and died on 5 August 1942 in Hollywood, California. The son of tenor Henry Bracy and actress Clara T. Bracy, and nephew of actress and dancer Lydia Thompson, he began his stage career in Australia in the 1890s with J. C. Williamson's comic opera companies. He later appeared on Broadway and in Britain, including roles in musicals such as The Rose of Persia (1900) and with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.
Bracey moved into film acting from 1909, appearing in more than 320 films until his death, often in uncredited character roles as butlers, valets or authority figures. His credits include Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) as Dance Hall Manager, The Cameraman (1928) as Editor, Freaks (1932) as Hans' Butler, Duck Soup (1933) as Mrs. Teasdale's Butler, A Star Is Born (1937) as Burke's Butler, and Dark Victory (1939) as Bartender. He also continued occasional stage work, including vaudeville.
