Biography

Sonoya Mizuno is a Japanese-English actress. Born on 1 July 1986 in Tokyo, she grew up in Somerset, England, and trained at the Royal Ballet School before dancing professionally with companies including the Scottish Ballet and Semperoper Ballet.

She began modelling in her early twenties and transitioned to acting with her film debut as Kyoko in Alex Garland's Ex Machina (2014). She appeared as Caitlin in La La Land (2016) and has collaborated repeatedly with Garland on Annihilation (2018), Devs (2020) and Civil War (2024). Other notable roles include Araminta Lee in Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Dr Azumi Fujita in the series Maniac (2018) and Mysaria in House of the Dragon (2022–).

Mizuno has also performed in music videos and on stage.
