Biography
Stephen H. Carter is an American production designer and art director. He is known for his work on the HBO series Succession (2018–2023), for which he received multiple Emmy nominations, and the film Babygirl (2024). His other credits as production designer include Spotlight (2015), Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) and Stronger (2017). He served as art director on Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) and earlier projects such as Sex and the City.
Raised in Georgia, Carter moved to New York to study acting and directing at NYU’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School. He shifted focus to set design during his studies and later transitioned to film and television work in the early 2000s. He has collaborated on numerous feature films and series, including The Bourne Legacy (2012), Friends with Benefits (2011) and Kill Your Darlings (2013).
