Biography

Stuart Bass is a Canadian-born American film and television editor and director. He was born in Montreal and holds a B.A. in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1978) and an M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute (1980). He began his career shooting rock videos for MTV and later moved into commercial work in San Francisco before focusing on editing single-camera comedy series in Los Angeles.

Bass is known for his editing on series including The Wonder Years, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Scrubs, The Office, Arrested Development (2005–2006), Pushing Daisies and A Series of Unfortunate Events. He has also directed episodes of Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and Melissa & Joey, as well as second-unit work on several shows. He is a member of the American Cinema Editors and served as a governor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences from 2007 to 2010 and 2012 to 2017. He retired as an editor and director in 2019 and now pursues fine art photography.
