Biography
Łukasz Żal is a Polish cinematographer. Born on 24 June 1981 in Koszalin, he graduated from the National Film School in Łódź in 2007.
He is known for his work on Ida (2013, with Ryszard Lenczewski), Loving Vincent (2017), Cold War (2018), I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) and The Zone of Interest (2023). He also served as cinematographer on Hamnet (2025).
Żal received Oscar nominations for Ida and Cold War. In 2019 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the British Royal Photographic Society and received its Lumière Award. He won the Variety Artisan Award at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
