Biography
Yûharu Atsuta (also credited as Yuuji Atsuta) was a Japanese cinematographer. He was born on 1 January 1905 in Kobe and died on 7 December 1992.
Atsuta joined Shochiku studios and worked as an assistant cinematographer on Yasujirō Ozu films from 1928. He became a director of photography in 1937 on What Did the Lady Forget? and served as Ozu's principal cinematographer on all subsequent Shochiku productions until 1962.
He shot Late Spring (1949), Early Summer (1951), Tokyo Story (1953), Good Morning (1959), Late Autumn (1960) and An Autumn Afternoon (1962), among many others. Atsuta appeared in the 1985 documentary Tokyo-ga, discussing Ozu's techniques.
