Biography
Adam Michael Shankman (born 27 November 1964) is an American film director, producer, choreographer and dancer. Born in Los Angeles, he began his professional career in musical theatre after studying at the Juilliard School. He worked as a dancer in music videos for Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson before moving into choreography.
Shankman has directed feature films including A Walk to Remember (2002), Hairspray (2007) and Rock of Ages (2012). He has also directed episodes of television series such as Glee (2009), Modern Family (2009), Only Murders in the Building (2021) and the film Stop! That! Train! (2026). He co-owns the production company Offspring Entertainment with his sister Jennifer Gibgot and served as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.
