Biography

Alex McDowell is a British production designer. His credits include Fight Club (1999), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Minority Report (2002), The Terminal (2004), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Watchmen (2009) and Man of Steel (2013).

Born in Borneo, Malaysia, to British parents, McDowell began in graphic design and music videos before moving to Los Angeles in 1986. He collaborated with director David Fincher on music videos and subsequently on feature films. He has also worked as a narrative designer and creative director, founding Experimental Design and directing the USC World Building Media Lab. He holds the William Cameron Menzies Chair in Production Design at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and was named a Royal Designer for Industry in 2006.
