Biography

Anna J. Foerster is a German-born American cinematographer and director. She studied camera at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and began her career in visual effects and second-unit work, including collaborations with Roland Emmerich on films such as Independence Day (1996), Godzilla (1998) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004).

As a director she has worked on episodes of Criminal Minds (2009–2011), Outlander (2014–2015), Jessica Jones (2018), Carnival Row (2019) and Westworld (2020). Her feature directorial credits include Underworld: Blood Wars (2016) and Lou (2022). She won the German Film Prize for cinematography on Anonymous (2011).
