Biography
Barbara Hall is an American television writer and producer. She graduated from James Madison University with a BA in English in 1982 and began her career writing for series including Family Ties and Newhart.
She wrote episodes of Moonlighting (1985), Northern Exposure (1990) and contributed a teleplay to ER (1994). Hall later wrote for Homeland (2011) and created the series Judging Amy (1999–2005) and Joan of Arcadia (2003–2005). She also created Madam Secretary (2014–2019) and served as co-executive producer on Homeland.
Her sister, Karen Hall, is also a television writer and producer. Hall has written several novels and released music as a singer-songwriter.
