Biography
Chester Conklin (1886–1971) was an American actor and comedian. He began his film career at Keystone Studios, where he appeared as one of Mack Sennett’s Keystone Cops and was frequently paired with Mack Swain in comedy shorts.
Conklin worked with Mabel Normand in several films and appeared in more than a dozen productions with Charlie Chaplin at Keystone. He later performed with Chaplin in the feature films Modern Times (1936), as a mechanic, and The Great Dictator (1940), as the barber’s customer. His other credited roles include appearances in Greed (1924), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and Sullivan’s Travels (1941).
