Biography
David E. Kelley is an American television writer and producer. Born on 4 April 1956 in Waterville, Maine, he practised law before moving into television in the mid-1980s.
He created the series Ally McBeal (1997–2002), The Practice (1997–2004) and Boston Legal (2004–2008). Other credits include writing Big Little Lies (2017), The Undoing (2020), Nine Perfect Strangers (2021), Love & Death (2023), Presumed Innocent (2024) and the screenplay for the film Lake Placid (1999). He has received multiple Primetime Emmy Awards.
Kelley is married to actress Michelle Pfeiffer. He created and wrote the 2026 Apple TV+ series Margo's Got Money Troubles, marking their first professional collaboration.
