Biography
Deep Roy, also credited as Mohinder Purba or Gurdeep Roy, is a Kenyan-British actor, stuntman and puppeteer. Born Mohinder Purba on 26 January 1949 in Nairobi, Kenya, to Indian parents, he moved to England as a child and began his career there as a stand-up comedian after briefly studying accounting.
He made his screen debut in the 1970s with roles in television series including The New Avengers, Doctor Who and Blake's 7, and films such as The Pink Panther Strikes Again. Roy is known for his work in science fiction and fantasy, including Droopy McCool in Return of the Jedi (1983), all 165 Oompa-Loompas in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and the recurring role of Keenser in the Star Trek films (2009–2016). He has frequently collaborated with director Tim Burton and appeared in other productions such as The NeverEnding Story (1984) and Corpse Bride (2005).
