Biography
Douglas Spencer (born William Henry Mesenkop) was an American actor. He appeared in dozens of films from the mid-1930s, often in uncredited or supporting roles, and worked as a stand-in for Ray Milland.
His credits include Lou Schwartz (uncredited) in Double Indemnity (1944), a hospital patient in The Lost Weekend (1945), Ned 'Scotty' Scott in The Thing from Another World (1951), Axel 'Swede' Shipstead in Shane (1953), Kraler in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), and a Martian in the Twilight Zone episode 'Mr. Dingle, the Strong' (1961). He was the brother of sound engineer Louis Mesenkop.
