Biography
E. E. Clive (born Edward Erskholme Clive) was a Welsh stage actor and director. He studied medicine for four years at St Bartholomew's Hospital before turning to acting at the age of 22. After touring the British provinces for a decade, he moved to the United States in 1912. He worked in vaudeville and established the Copley Theatre stock company in Boston, later operating in Hollywood. He also appeared in several plays on Broadway.
Clive made his film debut in 1933 as Constable Jaffers in The Invisible Man. Over the following seven years he played numerous supporting roles in Hollywood productions, often as butlers, officials or other English character types. His credits include the Burgomaster in Bride of Frankenstein (1935), roles in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939) and Pride and Prejudice (1940), and the recurring part of Tenny the butler in the Bulldog Drummond series. He died in North Hollywood in 1940.
