Biography
Gianni Di Venanzo was an Italian cinematographer. Born on 18 December 1920 in Teramo, Abruzzo, he studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and began working as a camera assistant during the Second World War on films by directors including Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica and Roberto Rossellini.
He served as director of photography on Michelangelo Antonioni’s La Notte (1961) and L’Eclisse (1962), Federico Fellini’s 8½ (1963) and Juliet of the Spirits (1965), and Francesco Rosi’s Salvatore Giuliano (1962) and Hands Over the City (1963). His final film was Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s The Honey Pot (1967). Di Venanzo died in Rome on 3 February 1966.
