Biography
Joel David Moore is an American actor and director. Born on 25 September 1977 in Portland, Oregon, he studied at Mt. Hood Community College and earned a BFA from Southern Oregon University before moving to Los Angeles.
He first gained notice for his role as Owen in the 2004 comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Moore is best known for playing Dr. Norm Spellman in James Cameron's Avatar (2009) and its sequels Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025). He had a recurring role as Colin Fisher on the series Bones (2008–2017) and has appeared in films including Grandma's Boy (2006) and The Guest (2014).
Moore has also directed films such as Spiral (2007) and Youth in Oregon (2016), and served as producer on Dead Man's Wire (2025).
