Biography

John Vallone was an American production designer and art director. Born in Pennsylvania on 23 June 1953, he studied at Carnegie Mellon University and New York University before beginning his career in 1977.

He worked as art director on Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and served as production designer on numerous films including Southern Comfort (1981), 48 Hrs. (1982), Commando (1985), Predator (1987, also as associate producer), Red Heat (1988), Die Hard 2 (1990), Cliffhanger (1993) and Bad Boys (1995). He collaborated frequently with director Walter Hill.

Vallone's later credits included television work such as the series Everwood. He died on 15 March 2004 in Park City, Utah.
