Biography

Jonathan Hyde is an Australian-born actor. Born in Brisbane, Queensland, he moved to London in 1969 and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1972. He is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has appeared in numerous stage productions, including with the RSC and the National Theatre.

Hyde is known for film roles including Samuel Parrish and Van Pelt in Jumanji (1995), J. Bruce Ismay in Titanic (1997), Allen Chamberlain in The Mummy (1999), and Leslie Woodrow in The Brutalist (2024). His television credits include Eldritch Palmer in The Strain (2014–2017) and the Duke of Norfolk in The Crown (2016). He is married to soprano Isobel Buchanan; they have two children, including actress Georgia King.
