Biography
Julie Delpy is a French-American actress, screenwriter and director. Born in Paris in 1969, she is the daughter of actors Albert Delpy and Marie Pillet. She began acting as a child and made her screen debut in Jean-Luc Godard’s Détective (1985).
Delpy is known for roles in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy (1993–1994) and as Céline in Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, 1995; Before Sunset, 2004; Before Midnight, 2013), the latter two of which she co-wrote. She has also directed and written several features, including Two Days in Paris (2007). She studied filmmaking at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and became a US citizen in 2001.
In 2025 she played French president Vivienne Toussaint in the Netflix series Hostage.
