Biography
Kathryn Hunter is an American-born British actress and theatre director. Born Aikaterini Hadjipateras on 9 April 1957 in New York City to Greek parents and raised in England, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and studied clowning at École Philippe Gaulier.
Hunter is known for her work in physical theatre, including long association with Complicité. She won the Olivier Award for Best Actress for The Visit (National Theatre). Her screen roles include Arabella Figg in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), the Witches in The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021), for which she received the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress, Eedy Karn in the series Andor (2022), Swiney in Poor Things (2023) and Teresa Cicero in Megalopolis (2024). She was married to actor Marcello Magni from 2011 until his death in 2022.
