Biography

Lawrence Sher, ASC is an American cinematographer and film director. Born on 4 February 1970 in Teaneck, New Jersey, he began his career working in camera departments after studying at Wesleyan University and moving to Los Angeles.

He is known for his collaborations with director Todd Phillips on the Hangover trilogy (2009–2013) and the Joker films (2019 and 2024), as well as with Zach Braff on Garden State (2004) and Wish I Was Here (2014). His other credits as director of photography include The Dictator (2012), Black Adam (2022) and The Bride! (2026). He received an Academy Award nomination for his work on Joker (2019).

Sher made his directorial debut with Father Figures (2017). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
