Biography

Leonard Carey (25 February 1887 – 11 September 1977) was an English character actor. He appeared in numerous Hollywood films from the 1930s to the 1950s, frequently in supporting roles as butlers and other servants.

He is best known for playing the beach hermit Ben in Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca (1940). Carey also appeared in other Hitchcock films, including Suspicion (1941) and Strangers on a Train (1951), as well as Gaslight (1944), Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Heaven Can Wait (1943). He worked in television during the 1950s.
