Biography

Luciana Arrighi is an Australian and Italian production designer. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1940, she was raised and educated in Australia, studying at East Sydney Technical College. She began her career in theatre and television in Australia and the United Kingdom before moving into film design.

She is known for her work with the Merchant Ivory team, serving as production designer on Howards End (1992), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction, The Remains of the Day (1993) and Surviving Picasso (1996). Other credits include Sense and Sensibility (1995), Anna and the King (1999) and The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016). She received further Oscar nominations for The Remains of the Day and Anna and the King, and won a BAFTA Television Craft Award for The Gathering Storm (2002).
