Biography
Mat Beck is a visual effects supervisor, producer, writer and director. He began his career as a camera operator and head of software development at Apogee, Inc., later founding Light Matters and Entity FX. His education includes film, computer science and neurophysiology.
Beck is known for visual effects work on films including Titanic (1997), The Aviator (2004), Hitch (2005) and Galaxy Quest (1999), and on television series such as The X-Files (where he also served as visual effects producer and wrote the episode 'Wetwired'), Band of Brothers (2001) and Smallville. He directed the Smallville episode 'Prototype' (2007).
He has received two Primetime Emmy Awards for visual effects on Sports Science and an Emmy nomination for Band of Brothers. Beck is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
