Biography

Max Richter is a German-born British composer and pianist. He was born on 22 March 1966 in Hamelin, Lower Saxony, West Germany, and grew up in England. He studied composition at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Music in London, and with Luciano Berio in Italy.

Richter composes for film, television, stage, opera and ballet, and has released several solo albums. His screen credits include the scores for Waltz with Bashir (2008), The Leftovers (2014), Black Mirror (2016), Ad Astra (2019) and Hamnet (2025). He received an Academy Award nomination for his work on Hamnet.
