Biography
Michael Byrne was a British actor. He trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and began his stage career with the Arena Theatre Company in 1962. He appeared in productions at the National Theatre and in the West End.
Byrne is known for film roles including Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Smythe in Braveheart (1995), Horace Greeley in Gangs of New York (2002), Admiral Kelly in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Anatoli Grushkov in The Sum of All Fears (2002) and Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010). On television he played Ted Page in Coronation Street from 2008 to 2010. He died on 20 June 2026.
