Biography
Mike Eley is a British cinematographer. He began his career in the cutting room at Aspect Films before moving into camera work, initially as an assistant and then as a freelance operator specialising in documentaries for broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV.
Eley’s feature debut came with Ken Loach’s The Navigators (2001). He gained wider recognition for his cinematography on the documentary Touching the Void (2003), for which he received a BIFA for Best Technical Achievement. Subsequent credits include Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010), My Cousin Rachel (2017), The Dig (2021) and The Duke (2021). He has also worked extensively in television, earning BAFTA and Emmy nominations.
Eley joined the British Society of Cinematographers in 2010 and served as its president from 2017 to 2021. He was born in 1960 in Romford, Essex.
