Biography
Millicent Shelton is an American television and film director. She began her career as a wardrobe production assistant on Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing (1989) and went on to direct over 100 music videos before transitioning to episodic television.
She has directed episodes of numerous series, including 30 Rock (2009–2010), for which she became the first African-American woman nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Other credits include The Walking Dead, The Flash, Supergirl, Parks and Recreation, Insecure, The Morning Show and Lessons in Chemistry (2023), the latter earning her a second Emmy nomination. She also directed the Netflix feature End of the Road (2022).
Shelton is a Princeton University graduate (1988) and attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has received NAACP Image Awards and a Peabody Award for her directing work.
