Biography
Neil Travis was an American film and television editor. Born in Los Angeles, he graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in film and theatre arts. He began his career as an assistant editor at Paramount Studios and received his first feature credit on The Traveling Executioner (1970).
Travis is best known for editing the miniseries Roots (1977), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award, and the feature film Dances with Wolves (1990), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Over a career spanning four decades, he edited more than 25 features, including collaborations with directors such as Phillip Noyce on Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). He was a member of the American Cinema Editors and received its Career Achievement Award in 2010. He died in 2012.
