Biography

Norma Shearer was a Canadian-American actress. Born in Montreal, she began her career in silent films and became one of MGM's leading stars from the mid-1920s through the 1930s.

Shearer won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Divorcee (1930). She appeared in notable films including Romeo and Juliet (1936) as Juliet and The Women (1939) as Mary Haines. She was married to MGM producer Irving G. Thalberg from 1927 until his death in 1936.
