Biography
Ra Vincent is a New Zealand production designer, set decorator and sculptor. He is Māori of the iwi Te Atiawa.
He trained as an artist from 1997 at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. His father, Bohdi Vincent, is also an artist and sculptor. Vincent began his screen career as a sculptor on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He served as set decorator on the Hobbit films (2012–2014), earning an Academy Award nomination for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). As production designer his credits include What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Jojo Rabbit (2019) – for which he received a second Oscar nomination – Next Goal Wins (2023) and Predator: Badlands (2025). He has also designed for television, including Our Flag Means Death (2022–2023).
Vincent has created several public sculptures. His awards include a Hollywood Film Award and a Saturn Award, with nominations for a BAFTA Award and two Critics' Choice Movie Awards. In 2021 he received the Te Aupounamu Māori Screen Excellence Award.
