Biography

Richard Rutkowski is an American cinematographer. Born in Oklahoma City in 1966, he attended Harvard College before beginning his career in the camera department as an assistant camera operator for nearly a decade.

He transitioned to director of photography on features including Kill by Inches and Interview with the Assassin (2002), the latter earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Cinematography. Rutkowski established the visual style for the FX series The Americans (2013–2015) over its first three seasons and has since photographed television series such as Manhattan (2014–2015), Castle Rock (2018–2019), Jack Ryan (2018–2022) and Masters of the Air (2024). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
