Biography
Rick Cleveland is an American television writer, producer, playwright and monologist. He holds an MFA from the University of Iowa and is a founding member of Chicago’s American Blues Theater.
He worked as a writer and producer on the first season of The West Wing (1999), co-writing the episode “In Excelsis Deo” with Aaron Sorkin, for which they won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Cleveland served as writer and producer across all five seasons of Six Feet Under (2001–2005), writing eight episodes and rising to executive producer. He later worked as a consulting producer and writer on Mad Men (2007).
His other credits include writing and producing on series such as House of Cards, Nurse Jackie and The Man in the High Castle, and the screenplay for the feature film Runaway Jury (2003). He adapted his stage play into the film Jerry and Tom (1998).
