Biography
Robert Lewin was an American screenwriter and television producer. Born in New York City, he attended Yale University and served as an officer in the US Army during the Second World War. He later worked as a reporter for Life magazine and the Atlanta Constitution before entering screenwriting.
His first screenplay, for the 1956 film The Bold and the Brave, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He wrote for numerous television series, including Mission: Impossible (1966), The Fugitive (1963), Rawhide, Kung Fu, Mannix, Starsky & Hutch and Gunsmoke. He won Writers Guild of America awards for episodes of Judd, for the Defense in 1968 and 1969.
Lewin also worked as a producer, receiving Emmy nominations for The Paper Chase and Baretta. He served as co-producer on the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), where he contributed to several episodes, and wrote the 1985 television film A Reason to Live. He died in Santa Monica, California, in 2004.
