Biography
Rory McCann is a Scottish actor born on 24 April 1969 in Glasgow. Before acting, he worked as a painter on the Forth Road Bridge, a landscape gardener and a carpenter. He trained as an actor in 1998 at the Actor's Workshop in Glasgow.
His first major role was in the television comedy-drama The Book Group (2002), for which he won a Scottish BAFTA. He appeared in Alexander (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007). McCann is known for portraying Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011–2019).
His film credits include Slow West (2015) as John Ross, xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) and Gladiator II (2024). His sister Sally-Gay McCann is a costume designer who worked on Game of Thrones.
